Flight Mission Details
Overview:
This was the 1st flight out of Ponca City with J-31 full payload (CAR, POS-AV system, & Nose Controller). Preflight goals focused on flying J-31 in the pattern (around the airport) to test the CAR instrument, POS and Nose controller.
J-31 Crew - David Thrasher (Pilot 1), Scott Kaiser (Pilot 2) & Kevin Zimmerer (Mechanic).
Cabin Crew - Charles Gatebe (Flight scientist; GEST/GSFC), Robert Billings (UC Santa Cruz/NASA Ames), and Rusty Jones (NASA GSFC).

1944: Engines on.
POS, Nose controller and CAR instrument started normally.
1954: take off.
flew in the vicinity of the airport, about 10 nm north. We tested all our equipment successfully. Did five orbits, 17 deg. banked to the right to give pilots practice on BRDF flight pattern.
2020: CAR turned off in preparation for landing.
2024: touchdown.
2028: Engine off.
