Flight Mission Details
Overview:
This was the 6th flight out of Ponca City. Preflight goals focused on measuring BRDF over the Southern Great Plain Central Facility (36.60°N, 97.48°W) -- CF and Little Washita (35.04°N, 97.91°W) -- LW under scattered clouds.
J-31 Crew - David Thrasher (Pilot 1) & Scott Kaiser (Pilot 2).
Cabin Crew - Charles Gatebe (Flight scientist; GEST/GSFC), Robert Billings (UC Santa Cruz/NASA Ames), Michael King (NASA GSFC), and Peter Lamb (Univ. of Oklahoma).

17:44 -- Engines on.
17:45 -- POS, Nose controller, and CAR instrument started normally.
17:50 -- problem with the intercom reported. No communication between pilots and flight scientist.
18:00 -- take off.
18:09 -- in the vicinity of the CF and descending down to 2000’ agl.
18:14 -- orbiting the CF at 2000’ agl for BRDF measurements under scattered clouds.
18:47 -- below an isolated cloud - Cu. Humilis.
18:57 -- end of BRDF circles.
18:58 -- headed back to the base with a detour southwards to look for thick clouds for diffusion domain measurements.
19:01 -- CAR shutdown.
19:07 -- touchdown.
19:13 -- Engines off.
